  • My First Khmer New Year in Siem Reap

I'd heard so much about it, but experiencing my first Khmer New Year in Siem Reap was definitely something I won't forget in a hurry. At first I really was n't sure what to expect. I knew it would be busy, and I knew there would be water involved, but being right in the middle of it is a completely different experience. The streets were packed, music was everywhere and it didn't take long before I was very much part of it all. What I loved most was the atmosphere. There was such a fun energy around Siem Reap, especially once everyone was out enjoying themselves. It felt lively, playful and a little bit chaotic in the best possible way. Even just walking around, you could feel this wasn't just any normal night - the whole city felt like it had come alive, Of course, staying dry was never an option. Once it all gets going, you just have to laugh and go with it. That was probably one of my favourite parts in the end - everyone was just enjoying the moment. It felt fun, light-hearted and like one big shared celebration. It also made me feel really grateful to be here and able to experience it properly. Moments like this are such a big part of why I love travelling. You can read about festivals and see videos online, but actually being there, in the middle of it all, is something completely different. My first Khmer New Year in Siem Reap was messy, fun, loud, unforgettable and such a good experience. I'm really glad I got to be part of it. Happy Khmer New Year
